Yeah I'm a slacker.

Yes, I do realize it has been far too long since the last time I posted anything on here. I won't lie and say I have been too busy. Even though I started a geek podcast (Just a couple of Gs) 2 months ago with three awesome people. No, that is not why I haven't posted anything. I will admit it's because I'm a slacker. I rather play video games and watch too much t.v. then sit here and write something like 3 people are going to read. Then I realized with great podcasting comes great social media responsibility. Man can not reach the masses with his podcast, twitter and facebook page alone. No I must get my brain off the lazy train (hey that rhymed) and get it to write these giant grammatically incorrect rants about geek culture and whatever happens to pop into my giant bearded head. I think I may have said something like this before and at this moment I mean it. I will try my damnedest to write at least ONE blog a week. I know there are people that can do it everyday or every other day but I'm a realist so once a week is my goal. It's good to have goals at least I'm not saying hey I'll write more without giving a set number. Actually that could be better for me because just writing this very blog is full filling  that very promise. So you read it here folks ONCE a week. If I don't do it feel free to yell at me.

My Porcelain Fortress of Solitude

Most people think of pooping as a minor inconvenience in life. I happen to think of it as a time of the day to get away from the world and just relax. Not just relax my bowels but my mind as well. My friends make fun of me for wanting to only go at home as much as possible but it's my sanctuary. Seriously this is what you need to do. First and foremost you need to have a book or magazine that you can read but put down at moments notice. Second when you sit on your thrown of relaxation take off your pants and underwear. It frees up your legs and it helps to enjoy your temporary solace from the world just outside the door. Third you don't have to rush out of the bathroom when you're done. Take in the moment for a little longer and enjoy it. Next time you do your thing try just staying in there for five minutes longer and read (finish the chapter or article). Trust me on this one guys and gals you'll start to realize it's not one of life's minor inconveniences but a small get away from the world around you.

Marvel and DC

Up until a few months ago I had not read a comic or graphic novel from Marvel and DC for years. I stopped reading books from the big two for a few reasons. The first is the BIG EVENTS. They got out of control and in the end had little to no pay off. Plus when one ended another began. Remember when big crazy things would happen in comics then right after they gave the characters a break for an issue or two? The second the more things change the more they stay the same. Oh did you hear who they killed off? Oh guess who is back alive? Spider-Man revealed his secret identity to the world? Oh it's cool now he made a deal with Mephisto to save Aunt May's life and erased everyone's memory of who he really he is under the mask. Oh and also made it so Peter and Mary Jane never got together. Great job Peter! Give up the love of your life, the woman who has been with you through thick and thin (even when you were on a break she was still there for you.) for your Aunt who will probably die of a hard attack or have a bad fall making it so you'll have to feed her and change her diapers. She lived along enough life let her go. (and yes I know she got shot by one of Kingpins assassins.) The third reason is I am a indie comic book writer (very very indie). I thought it was only right that I read and support only indie books for awhile.

Now don't get me wrong and think I'm an indie snob. I love the Marvel and DC characters. I grew up watching the X-men and Batman cartoons. I remember when I was a kid and just buying whatever comic and reading them. Most of the time I didn't and couldn't keep up with story arches but still loved them. But like I said up until a few months ago I had not read a book from the big two. I heard a lot of buzz about Superman Earth One so I went out and bought it. I like it but the story felt rushed. Being a graphic novel they could have done as many pages as they wanted. About a week ago I picked up Thor: The Mighty Avenger, Vol. 1: The God Who Fell to Earth. It's such an awesome book and of course it got canceled. The trade is the first four issues and two issues of Journey Into Mystery which tell Thor's origin into the Marvel Universe. Roger Langridge and Chris Samnee do an amazing job of giving it a golden age feel without making it campy. I really hope the get the opportunity to put out issues 9 - 12. So they at least get to finish the story they wanted to tell. Come one Marvel you got Disney money now. So now I will be reading DC and Marvel books again. I won't collect monthly just the trades.

So anyone got a suggestion on what I should be reading?

Thought of the day 1

You see a black guy with a white girl so you start checking her out and you think to yourself "Why is he with a girl with no booty?"

Is this racist? Well is it Becky?

My Top 5 Christmas Movies

This my list of my top five Christmas movies. I watch them every year around Christmas time (when else would I watch them dummy?). You may agree or disagree with what's on the list but honestly I don't care what you think. This is my blog it's all about me and my opinion. Keeping with the holiday spirit I have going so far let us get to this joyous list.

Number One: A Christmas Story.

Some of you might find it cliche' for this to be on the list but as I said I don't care. Not only is this my favorite Christmas movie it is one of my favorite movies of all time. Every time I watch this movie it makes me feel like a kid on Christmas. This is the only movie that makes me feel that way and that is why it's #1 with a BB on my list.

Number Two: National Lampoons Christmas Vacation.

How could anyone not love spending time with the Griswolds? From Aunt Bethany wrapping up her cat as if it were a present to Cousin Eddie kidnapping Clark's boss at gun point on Christmas Eve. Obviously there are all sorts of other great things that happen in this movie but those were some of my favorites. Every time I watch this movie it makes me laugh and that's why it's one of my favorites to watch during the holidays.

Number Three: Elf

Will Ferrell plays a man who gets raised as an elf in the north pole... nuff said.

Number Five: Home Alone

If your asking why this is one is on my list STOP READING THIS BLOG RIGHT NOW! This movie is a Christmas classic. Plus who wouldn't of love to be just like Kevin McCallister when they were a kid. Having the house all to yourself and you can do whatever you want. I'm surprised he didn't burn that joint down. Also what kid ask "Is this toothbrush approved by the American Dental Association?" I'll tell you who! A kid with white teeth and that is smart enough to foil to grown ass men trying to rob his house.

Number Five: The Muppet Christmas Carol

Muppets + Michael Caine = movie magic

Prime Time Geek

Once upon a time in a far away land I met The Professor...

The far away land was Orlando and The Professor's name is Felix Ramon Albuerne Jr. He is the host of a awesomely geektastic podcast called Prime Time Geek. We were introduced to one another by a mutual friend of ours (and Ghost Shadow Studio)her name is Lisa Corrao and she is a stand up comedian (who just so happens to be a geek herself). Back to Felix now! I met Felix at Megacon and I kept in contact with him in hopes of promoting the comic book company and my book Torpidity. So I finally got the go and did the interview but I did one thing most people probably wouldn't have done. I kept listening to the show and I stayed in contact with Felix.

Big side note..
On the same show The Man from Slacker and The Man podcast was co hosting. I am only telling you about this because one we are friends with them now and secondly I was completely new to podcasts. They were kind of a weird alien idea to me at the time. I didn't realize that these guys pour a lot of time, money and effort into something most people would call a hobby. I personally do not and would not call what they do a hobby. It's a job you don't get paid to do but hope some day you will make it into a career. I completely empathize with this being an indie comic book creator. I also did an interview with Slacker and The Man a month or so later. Just like Prime Time Geek I kept listening to the The Man's podcast as well.

GETTING BACK TO MY POINT!!!
Listening to PTG over time I noticed Felix liked having guest on the show. Being the media whore that I am I suggested that I start doing a segment reviewing indie comics books. Felix liked the idea and a few weeks ago not only did I do my first segment I was in studio with Felix for two hours. That's right two hours of talking about nerdy things and I loved it a lot! Those two hours are actually split into two shows the first was episode 156 We discussed THE WALKING DEAD and I reviewed indie comics Gear Head and Demo (you have to listen to the podcast to hear my thoughts on them). The second show was episode 157 and we covered J. Michael Stravinsky leaving Superman and Wonder Woman to work solely on his follow up to the hot selling Superman Earth One trade. There is also a review of “Superman/Shazam: The Return of Black Adam” from Warner Premiere and the DC Universe Animated Movies Collection and we wrapped up the Show with the Smallville Smackdown (in which I have no opinion since I stopped watching the show around season 3.)

So check out those shows and all the other episodes of Prime Time Geek. Felix puts on great quality shows and he is a awesome dude. Also check out the Slacker and The Man podcast as well.

Conan O'Brien

I want to state how happy I am that Conan is back on the air. As we all know NBC took the the Tonight Show away from Conan (which he only was on for 7 months) and gave it back to Jay Leno. The decision was all about money. It was cheaper to get rid of Conan so they gave him a nice fat check and showed him the door. (Side note... Jay Leno should have just retired from television during the whole mess. He handed the reins over to Conan on national television and he should have respected that.)

So with a deal signed keeping him off air for 8 months Conan went viral. His team got him to start up a twitter account and www.teamcoco.com Not being able to be on t.v. and being a attention whore Conan started the The Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television Tour. Then in April a surprising announcement came out that Conan O'Brien was going to be on TBS. I heard this and was happy. I'm pretty sure I did a happy dance... well not a physical one just in my head.

I grew up watching Conan when he was on Late Night and of course followed him over to the Tonight Show. I have in fact watched every episode of the tonight show that aired (one didn't air when he fell and got a concussion racing Teri Hatcher). I have watched every episode of Conan on TBS. I like many others out there will follow him on any network he is on. He makes me laugh all the time and he is a good human being. So I want to thank TBS and all of my fellow Team Coco people for keeping him on television.

Keep up the good work Mr. O'Brien (and his awesome staff as well) and Conan... never shave that sweet beard.
